PERTH (miningweekly.com) – An updated scoping study of ASX-listed Kibaran Resources’ Epanko graphite project, in Tanzania, had revealed that the project could have a net present value of A$213-million.

The scoping study was based on an opencut operation delivering throughput of 420 000 t/y, to produce 40 000 t/y of high-grade graphite flake concentrate, grading between 94% and 97% carbon.

The study was based on an indicated mineral resource of 12.8-million tonnes, grading 10% total graphitic carbon, for about 1.28-million tonnes of  contained graphite.

Based on the resource, the project was estimated to have a mine life of some 27 years.

The scoping study estimated that the project would require a capital investment of A$56-million and would have an operating cost of A$489/t of concentrate.

Kibaran reported that the results of the scoping study provided the company with sufficient confidence and a business case to advance the project into a feasibility study.

The ASX-listed developer was currently in discussions with several engineering design and construction companies reviewing the terms of reference and timing of the feasibility study.
