Sayaringo steam turbine and gas engine (STaGE) liquid natural gas (LNG) carriers project, Nagasaki, Japan.

The project is a joint venture between Chubu Electric Power Company and Mistui OSK Lines, and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of two next-generation Sayaringo STaGE LNG carriers. One LNG carrier will be delivered to each of Mitsui OSK Lines and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha. The carriers will be 297.5 m in length, 48.94 m wide, with a depth and draft of 27 m and 11.5 m respectively.

Each carrier features four apple-shaped tanks – an improved version of Moss

Type 2 tanks – with a bulging upper half.

Total capacity of the holding tanks will be 180 000 m3.

Adoption of a tank cover integrated with the hull structure will allow for passage through the expanding Panama canal that is expected to go into service in 2016.
