Two more Johannesburg suburbs will become part of the ‘fibrehood’ family as telecommunications start-up Vumatel deploys a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Saxonwold and Parkwood.

The first homes and businesses are expected to be online by September, as the infrastructure work is expected to start in the third quarter of this year, the company says.

The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association (Sapra) has followed the example of the various residents associations responsible for bringing FTTH to Parkhurst, Greenside, Parktown North, Killarney and Riviera.

“There has been much acclaim by the residents of the Parkhurst area and, with the benefits that fibre affords residents, we look forward to becoming a fully fledged Vuma fibrehood in the coming months,” Sapra committee member Bill Haslam says in a statement.

Vumatel says the first homes in Greenside and Parktown North were connected by the end of April – six weeks after construction had started.
