The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) says the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) is structured in a manner that will ensure its integrity and viability can endure a change in leadership.

This follows after the Department of Energy and the Development Bank of Southern Africa earlier this week asked Independent Power Producer (IPP) Office head Karen Breytenbach, who has overseen the REIPPPP to date, to vacate her position.

SAWEA expressed its gratitude to Breytenbach for her years of dedication and drive, adding that she had been instrumental in creating the world-class REIPPPP.

The association said it hoped her successor would bring the same level of insight and guidance to safeguard the programme and permit it to continue flourishing, while attracting much-needed local and global investment.
