The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) is investing about R1.2-billion in road construction projects in Cradock and Middelburg, in the Eastern Cape, over the next three years.

The projects in the Inxuba Yethemba local municipality are at various stages, with some in tender stage and some in the construction stage, while others will have a contractor appointed shortly.

The special maintenance projects are Cradock to Hofmeyr, with an estimated budget of R200-million; Cradock to Tarkastad, with an estimated budget of R150-million; and Middelburg to Molteno, with an estimated budget of R350-million.

The Fish River to Cradock is a road upgrade project with an estimated budget of R250-million.

Additionally, routine road maintenance (RRM) projects will be implemented on the N10 Nanaga to Middelburg, with an estimated budget of R51-million and on the R61, N9 and N6, with an estimated budget of R52-million.

RRM projects in Middelburg have an estimated budget of R60-million for three years, and Cradock has an estimated RRM budget of R60-million for three years, Sanral said in an April 8 statement.
