In the latest move by telecommunications group Telkom to close its management gaps and propel its turnaround, 30-year Telkom veteran Alphonzo Samuels has been appointed as chief technology officer, effective immediately.

Telkom Group CEO Sipho Maseko said the company was “one step closer” to completing its new top leadership structure.

Samuels would be responsible for the implementation of the functional separation of Telkom’s Wholesale and Retail divisions, strengthening the groups wholesale services and maintaining focus on delivering Telkom’s next generation network aspirations while leading the transformation towards an all-IP network, Maseko said.

Over the past few months, the group had been strengthening its management circle through the appointment of Ian Russell as chief procurement officer, Len de Villiers as CIO and Enzo Scarcella as chief marketing officer.

Telkom last year had also filled the positions of COO with Dr Brian Armstrong and head of strategy with Dr Miriam Altman.
