Civil engineering industry body, the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (Saice) this week inaugurated its new president, Mopilwane Fana Marutla.

Marutla is the hundred-and-seventeenth person to serve as the organisation’s president since its establishment in 1903. He previously served as Saice’s railway and harbour division chairperson.

He is a civil engineer with 22 years’ experience in railway engineering, infrastructure design and maintenance, as well as project management and business case development.

Marutla previously served as business development head at GIBB Engineering and Architecture and also worked at Transnet Freight Rail for 17 years.

In his inauguration speech, he emphasised the importance of ethical leadership in improving South Africa’s education, youth entrepreneurship and procurement.
