SAA Cargo takes delivery of new freighter aircraft
South African Airways (SAA) Cargo has taken delivery of a Boeing 737-400 freighter aircraft, which GM Tleli Makhetha said was part of plans to replace the cargo carrier’s ageing fleet and to bring additional stability to its schedule.
The SAA division was upgrading its freighter fleet to include bigger and fuel-efficient aircraft for the domestic and regional markets.
A further B737-300F aircraft will be delivered in July to replace SAA Cargo’s current B737-200 aircraft. The cargo carrier’s fleet will eventually comprise three B737-300Fs and one B737-400F.
“This can only mean good news for our customers as the bigger aircraft will provide them with extra capacity on key routes,” said Makheta.
The B737- 400F can take between 20 t to 22 t on ten pallet positions.
“We are proud to show our commitment to growing the business in Africa,” he stated, adding that new Africa routes would be introduced following the delivery of the aircraft.
