Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu discusses South Africa’s water ‘difficulties’ and outlines government’s interventions to ensure the country is water secure.

He reveals that the troubled Mhlathuze Water Board, in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), will merge with the Umgeni Water Board. Umgeni Water’s supply border will be expanded to include Mhlathuze.

The Minister also outlines government’s interventions to ensure water supply to areas in KZN that were affected by the devastating floods.

Meanwhile, in Nelson Mandela Bay, Mchunu discusses government’s interventions that ensured that the municipality did not reach Day Zero. He says demands were made to the municipality to ensure that water leaks, which was a major source of water loss, were attended to.

He discusses lessons learnt from Cape Town’s Day Zero and notes that, compared with the rest of the world, South Africans overuse water.
