TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Project developer Romarco Minerals on Monday said, following the posting of the final environmental-impact statement for the Haile gold project, in South Carolina, on the US Army Corps of Engineers website on Thursday, that the Corps had informed the company that it would issue its record of decision (ROD) on its 404 wetlands permit application in November.

The 404 permit is the only federal environmental permit required for the Haile gold mine.

“We are pleased that the Corps has announced its guidance on the timing of the ROD. The November timing falls within our planned schedule for funding and preparing for construction activities at the Haile gold mine. Based on our continued work with [the] South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, we anticipate that the remaining state permits will also meet this schedule,” president and CEO Diane Garrett said.

Last year, Romarco received four state permits – the national pollutant discharge elimination system permit, air quality permit, dam safety permit and stormwater construction permit. The state permits or authorisations outstanding for the Haile project included the state mine operating permit and 401 water quality certification.
