Project Description
The hydrodam was originally designed to accommodate six generating units; however, only four were installed when the facility was built. BC Hydro added the fifth unit in 2010.
The Revelstoke Unit 6 entails the addition of a new generating unit to an existing, empty bay in the Revelstone power plant. The new unit will add 500 MW of capacity to BC Hydro’s electricity network.
The project will include a new capacitor station to deliver the additional power to the grid.
Revelstoke Unit 6 is needed to avoid a significant capacity deficit within ten years, when major maintenance work starts on BC Hydro’s Mica dam.

The project is expected to create 326 person years of employment.
Value
The project will cost an estimated $582-million.
Duration
BC Hydro is pursuing regulatory approval so that Unit 6 can be in service as early as 2021, in case the additional capacity is needed sooner.
Latest Developments
BC Hydro has submitted an application for an environmental assessment certificate to the BC Environmental Assessment office to install a sixth generating unit at the Revelstoke dam.
A decision to issue an environmental assessment certificate is expected in the second half of 2017.
