Enterprise open source platform company Red Hat has launched a range of new application (app) management platforms and tools that are powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to make deploying, managing and securing apps on any variety of infrastructure simple and easy, says Red Hat app platform specialist Bruce Busansky.

The new launches were announced during the company's yearly summit in Boston, Massachusetts, in the US, at the end of May.

Specifically, the company launched its Red Hat Openshift AI app platform to enable users to write modern apps. It enables customers to create and use their own AI models and use them in their apps, relies on sound data science practices and encompasses all the company's existing products, platforms and services, he says.

Further, the company launched its AI-based and -driven information technology (IT) automation platform Ansible Lightspeed. It can execute natural language commands given to it to manage IT services and apps, thereby enabling IT managers to automate and scale out even custom apps developed for their environments.

In addition to this, Red Hat has also launched its Event-Driven Ansible, which flags faults to IT managers and proposes solutions based on the user's environment and solutions that were effective in similar environments.

Busansky emphasises that the company adheres to the highest cybersecurity and information security standards and that the solutions are based on its significant library of different IT environments.

"We regularly test our platforms and tools on more than 4 000 different types of hardware and more than 3 000 different types of software and cloud environments. We then run financial or banking apps, for example, to see that they work, and we can then guarantee that the apps will work on such setups," he noted.

Red Hat's mission is to ensure customers can write and deliver apps on any platform, unbound by infrastructure, in the safest and most secure way, he adds.

"To succeed in today’s climate, organisations must configure an IT estate with maximum flexibility that is prepared to respond to rapid change. Flexibility is invaluable and empowers organisations to retain skills, standards, processes, best practices and management tools. This reduces the friction and cost of constant change," Busansky says.

Additionally, the company will soon provide customers with a preview of its Red Hat Trusted Software Supply Chain service offering. This is aimed at ensuring that software is securely and effectively developed in each part of the software product lifecycle for the end goal of running that app in production, he added.

Red Hat Trusted Software Supply Chain will be delivered as a cloud service with integrated security guardrails at every phase of the software development life cycle.

Meanwhile, Red Hat announced its partnership with energy and industrial multinational ABB to deliver operational excellence at the industrial edge. It also announced its partnership with automotive software and services company ETAS to help transform the automotive industry at the edge, he highlights.
