Record production from Kanmantoo - Hillgrove
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Hillgrove Resources has reported record quarterly production from its Kanmantoo copper mine, for the three months to January.
The miner has previously expressed its expectation that production at Kanmantoo would increase on the back of the new owner-operator model, and results did not disappoint, with the mine delivering 5 838 t of copper in concentrates during the period under review.
Production was up 36% over the third quarter, and above the guidance of between 5 400 t and 5 600 t.
“The change in mine practices through the newly configured and Hillgrove-operated mining fleet has continued to reap dividends for Kanmantoo operating performance,” said Hillgrove MD and CEO Greg Hall.
“This can clearly be seen in the reduction in mining dilution, increased mining tonnes, and improved feed grades to the mill. Our processing plant group have also continued to improve their throughput rates, run time and copper recovery, all resulting in an increase in copper produced.”
Hall pointed out that 4 362 t of material was mined during the fourth quarter, an increase of 80% on the previous quarter and a 28% increase over the previous best quarter this year.
Process plant throughput also reached record highs at 760 000 t of ore, while mill head grade increased by 0.83%.
“This quarter has set the foundation for the operating performance for the next 12 months. We will continue to work on the improvements that our employees have identified through the operating planning and implementation processes,” Hall said.
For 2015, Hillgrove expected the Kanmantoo mine to deliver between 22 300 t and 24 600 t of copper in concentrate and between 7 000 oz and 9 000 oz of gold in concentrate.
