PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Ramelius Resources on Monday told shareholders that it had devised a plan to resolve a wall slip at its Western South Queen openpit mine, in Western Australia, which resulted in the miner suspending operations last week.

The slip occurred beneath the ramp on the western side of the pit.

Ramelius said that while part of the pit ramp was affected by the slip, access to the bottom of the pit was still possible.

The miner had now developed a plan to rectify the slip area, but warned shareholders that the work would not start until safe working conditions existed. The work would also take about 14 days to complete.

Despite the pit wall failure, production at the Western Queen would not be impacted in the short term, as the operation already had a four-month supply of stockpiled ore which would be delivered to the Mount Magnet mill.

Last month, Ramelius was forced to stop production at its Mount Magnet project, after electrical projects were reported at its processing plant. A temporary replacement motor was installed; however, the motor was running below the previous capacity, meaning that the processing plant was operating at only 85% capacity.
