JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Queensland copper producer CuDeco has temporarily suspended processing plant operations at its Rockland copper mine, after an investigation by the Department of Mineral Resources and Mines (DMRM) on Thursday identified a number of safety issues.

The suspension would remain in place pending further review of the mine’s site safety and health management system and its implementation to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations, the ASX-listed company said on Friday.

“This is extremely disappointing given our recent progress towards achieving nameplate production at our plant, with November set to be a record month at our Cloncurry mine,” chairperson Peter Hutchison said, adding that the company would work closely with the DMRM to review its procedures and to address any defects.

In February the DMRM also temporarily suspended operations at Rockland pending the submission of an updated safety and health management system.
