Project Description
The estimated 833 km pipeline will span from the Wallumbilla Gas Hub, in Queensland, to Newcastle.

About 611 km of the pipeline will be in NSW and the balance in Queensland. It will be made of 130 000 t of steel and will be buried about 700 mm under the surface along its length.

The pipeline will pass through ten local government areas in NSW – Moree Plains, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains, Upper Hunter, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Maitland, Port Stephens and Newcastle.

Initially the pipeline will free flow 85 petajoules (PJ) a year, with the possibility of increasing to 160 PJ/y or more through the future installation of compressors. NSW currently uses more than 200 PJ/y.

The project is estimated at $850-million.

Duration
The pipeline is expected to be completed in late 2017.

Latest Developments
Hunter Gas Pipeline has begun preliminary engineering to connect the Hunter Valley to the Wallumbia Hub in south-east Queensland.
