Quay 7 Superyacht Marina, South Africa – update

A ceremony was held on Thursday by the V&A Waterfront and Damen Shipyards as part of their superyacht building project.
Name of the Project
Quay 7 Superyacht Marina.
Location
V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.
Project Owner/s
Mixed-use precinct V&A Waterfront.
Project Description
The Quay 7 Superyacht Marina forms part of the broader V&A Waterfront precinct expansion, which also includes the Cape Town EDITION hotel, the refurbished InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town and the East Pier Helistop.
The marina is being developed as a dual-purpose facility and is also expected to pursue Gold Anchor accreditation.
During the peak yachting season, it will accommodate superyachts on six stern-in berths and two beam-on berths served by floating jetties. In the off-season, it will support commissioning and export staging for Cape Town’s catamaran manufacturing industry, including builders such as Robertson and Caine, Two Oceans Marine and Balance Catamarans.
Six 30-m Damen 3006 floating pontoons will provide berthing for eight vessels of up to 90 m. The pontoons will be fitted with fire and lifesaving equipment, water supply and electrical kiosks, bollards, fenders, IT connectivity, bamboo decking and shear fenders securing them to the Quay 7 wall. The adjacent Cape Town Edition hotel will provide a 200 m² marina concierge area, including a business lounge, refreshment station, and meeting and event rooms.
The project also benefits from Cape Town’s position on the Southern Atlantic Ocean and long-distance cruising routes.
Potential Job Creation
As at July 2026, about 120 people were working on site, including staff from nine local subcontractors, with 76% of procurement spend having been directed to local suppliers. Once operational, the marina is also expected to support activity across provisioning, refuelling, marine engineering, logistics, hospitality and marine contracting.
Capital Expenditure
R230-million.
Planned Start/End Date
Construction is scheduled for completion on October 31, 2026, with the official opening planned for November 1, 2026.
Latest Developments
The V&A Waterfront and Damen Shipyards Cape Town marked the formal start of pontoon production in July 2026 with a keel-laying ceremony at Damen Shipyards’ Port of Cape Town factory. Work on the R230-million project was about 45% complete. The next major construction milestone is the assembly and completion of the first three pontoons.
Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
Damen Shipyards Cape Town (construction of the six purpose-built floating pontoons). Nine local subcontractors are working on the project, but they have not been named.
