JSE-listed Protech Kuthele on Monday said its contracting division was awarded a R65-million contract for the bulk earthworks and construction of a new solid waste disposal facility in Rustenburg.

“We are very excited about the contract, which flows from the repositioning of the group last year, and demonstrates our ability to deliver more diversified solutions to our customers,” CEO Antony Page commented in a statement.

The nine-month project was expected to start this week when the unit initiated the excavation and stockpiling of over
800 000 m3 of clay turf material and other unsuitable soils and rock.

The company would also be responsible for the construction of various waste cell berms and retaining structures with a volume in excess of 500 000 m3.

Base preparations totalling more than 120 000 m3 would be constructed, with a total of over 1.3-million cubic metres of material moved. This represented movement of 10 000 m3 a day to meet the deadline.

“Our newly formed Civil and Earthworks business is now better positioned to provide sustainability and future growth, as underscored by this successful tender,” he concluded.
