PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Coal developer Prairie Mining has launched a scoping study for its recently acquired Debiensko hard coking coal project, in Poland.

The study, due for completion in early to mid-2017, will explore options for the near-term development of the project, with an eye on minimising upfront capital cost.

“As promised, we are rapidly advancing the assessment of our Debiensko project with a scoping study now under way,” said CEO Ben Stoikovich.

“We are looking forward to announcing a maiden Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource estimate early next year, which will be used to support the scoping study at Debiensko.”

Prairie acquired the project through the purchase of NWR Karbonia for an upfront cash consideration of €500 000 and a deferred cash consideration of €1.5-million.

The project, which is fully permitted with a 50-year mining concession, has an exploration target of between 210-million and 260-million tonnes, based on historical drilling and resource work, and has established on-site facilities including rail, road and power infrastructure.
