PPC Zimbabwe officially opened its $82-million Harare cement milling and dispatch facility this month, bringing its collective production capacity to 1.4-million tons a year.

The project, forming part of PPC’s African expansion strategy, was completed on time and under budget, and boasted a cement ball mill with dynamic separator; a single-line packer, palletiser, stretch hood and storage warehouse; road and rail offloading facilities; and a bulk bag loading facility, besides others.

“The addition of the Harare factory to the company’s Colleen Bawn mining and Bulawayo factory operations means that PPC will not only be able to meet demand in Zimbabwe’s economic hub, but it also boosts the country’s exports to regional markets, including Zambia and Mozambique,” PPC Zimbabwe chairperson Todd Moyo said.

“The positive impact of the new plant is already being felt in the area, with the National Railways of Zimbabwe moving an additional one-million tonnes of freight between October 2016 and February 2017, in part, owing to the introduction of the transportation of clinker from Colleen Bawn to Harare,” he added.

Simultaneously, PPC Zimbabwe’s sales team launched the new Surecast 42.5R solution, developed as a bagged and bulk option specifically for precasters, brick manufacturers, ready-mix producers and medium and large contractors.
