Positive drill results to ‘reactivate’ Tulu Kapi mining licence – Kefi
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Results from an infill drilling and surface trenching programme at gold explorer Kefi Minerals’ Tulu Kapi operation, in Ethiopia, have supported the company's structural interpretation and modelling of the orebody.
“This is significant as the Tulu Kapi project has complex geology and gold distribution and has required an equally complex methodology to allow interpretation for mine planning,” the company said in a statement on Friday.
Reverse circulation (RC) infill drilling, completed as part of the project’s definitive feasibility study (DFS), intercepted strong gold mineralisation, with best results of 12 m at 4.23 g/t of gold, 5 m at 9.71 g/t of gold, 2 m at 24.86 g/t of gold, 8 m at 4.24 g/t of gold, 4 m at 10.36 g/t of gold and 4 m at 9.8 g/t of gold.
Results of the surface trenching programme, meanwhile, confirmed continuity of mapped mineralisation and returned new mineralised intervals, including 8.5 m at 1.96 g/t of gold, 8.1 m at 4.67 g/t of gold, 3.2 m at 12.91 g/t of gold and 5.8 m at 1.91 g/t of gold.
Having now completed the fieldwork and classified 90% of the mineral resources within the indicated category of the Joint Ore Reserves Committee code, the Tulu Kapi resource was now considered ready for updating, after which it would be used to estimate ore reserves and finalise mine planning.
“These recent drill hole and trench results confirm the mineralisation as modelled. This validates our resource estimate methodology and we can now update resources, reserves, mine planning and the DFS required to reactivate the mining licence application by the end of the year and trigger construction in 2015,” commented MD Jeff Rayner.
