The Portfolio Committee on Communications on Tuesday said it had now shortlisted seven potential candidates to fill four of the five vacant councillor positions at the council of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa), while recommending the readvertisement for the position of chairperson.

Botlenyana Mokhele, Advocate Dimakatso Qocha, Lumka Mtimde, Yengwayo Kutta, Peter Zimri, Keabetswe Modimoeng and Paris Mashile were deemed suitable candidates with the requisite qualifications, skills and experience.

Earlier this year, the candidates formed part of a group of 12 that were shortlisted for the vacant positions.

The National Assembly still needed to adopt the recommendations before being sent to Communications Minister Faith Muthambi for appointment, committee chairperson Joyce Moloi-Moropa noted.
