Name of the Project
Pituffik titanium project.

Location
Greenland.

Client
Bluejay Mining.

Project Description
Pituffik is an advanced-stage titanium project comprising three main target areas along more than 80 km of coastline historically proven to contain large and high-grade accumulations of primary ilmenite occurring as placer deposits in:
• Raised beaches containing ilmenite accumulations across widths of more than 1 km of unknown depths, along more than 20 km of coastline.
• Active beaches, which refer to the area seaward of the frontal dunes, including the beach, tidal zones and surf zone. Historically, samples from this area have achieved 70% ilmenite by weight.
• Drowned beaches, which refer to the areas seaward of active beaches.

Successful testwork has demonstrated that the project could produce a gravity-separated concentrate that compares favourably to existing ‘hard rock’ sources of ilmenite.

Overall composition of the ilmenite has indicated that it should be readily soluble in sulphuric acid at high process efficiency, making it suitable for all digestion process options.

All chemical analyses have shown a consistent ilmenite composition across the entire project area. Elements that could adversely impact on final pigment quality, particularly whiteness and yellowness, are comparable to existing commercial products. Further, radioactive components and acid-insoluble minerals are better than industry benchmarks for sulphate ilmenite.

Latest Developments
Bluejay Mining says it is continuing to advance its Pituffik project, with the aim of publishing a resource upgrade by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

Drilling is under way to expand the current resource, a bathymetry survey has been started and licencing applications are progressing.

The project has an inferred resource of 23.6-million tonnes at at 8.8% ilmenite. This includes a high-grade zone equal to 7.9-million tonnes at 14.2% ilmenite at Moriusaq, which is the focus of the feasibility and production studies that are currently under way. Bluejay is targeting a larger exploration area, primarily encompassing potential mineralisation below and inland from the current drilling, of between 90-million tonnes to 130-million tonnes at an in-situ grade of between 6.3% and 8.4% ilmenite.

CEO Roderick McIllree comments that the current work is focused on demonstrating the size of the asset, securing an off-take partner and defining a viable logistics solution to ship the ilmenite product.

The company has already concluded the public preconsultation phase of the permitting process for its Pituffik project and is in the public consultation phase of the final draft environmental-impact assessment (EIA) and social-impact assessment (SIA) documents.

The public preconsultation phase, which is a requirement of Greenland for granting exploitation licences, is aimed at creating a collaborative dialogue for stakeholders before the completion of the EIA and SIA for final assessment. Points raised during the preconsultation phase will be incorporated into the final form documents.
