Latest Developments
Northern Dynasty Minerals has reached a settlement with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that allows it to proceed a development plan proposal and an environmental impact statement (EIS) from the US Army Corps of Engineers for the Pebble copper/gold project.

Assuming Northern Dynasty can obtain an EIS within four years and file permit applications within 30 months of the date of the settlement agreement, the EPA "will not file a ‘recommended determination’ under Section 404(c) of the Clean Water Act to interdict the project’.

The agreement means that Northern Dynasty's development project is back on track and while it cannot guarantee success nor profit, the agreement enables the company to finally start applying for permits and approvals.

In return, Northern Dynasty’s Alaska-based subsidiary the Pebble Partnership has agreed to terminate permanently and with prejudice two lawsuits it brought against the EPA under an action under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and an action under the Freedom of Information Act.

Meanwhile, PLP has been advancing planning for a smaller project design at Pebble than previously considered, and one that incorporates significant environmental safeguards.

On Budget and on Time?
The long-stalled Pebble project has garnered significant interest from speculators lately, as they expect the controversial project will be approved by the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The Pebble deposit has inspired intense controversy, as a broad and bipartisan coalition, including environmentalists, Alaska Natives, and commercial fishermen, have fought its planned development, leading the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2014 to stop the project. The election of Trump, however, has fuelled hopes that a more mining-friendly EPA will allow the project to progress.
