North-West University School of Business and Governance economist Professor Raymond Parsons has been awarded an honorary lifetime membership by the Economic Society of South Africa (Essa).

In his citation for the award, Essa president Professor Gavin Keeton referred to Parsons' significant contribution to public and academic debate in South Africa over several decades.

“Parsons has become an eminent authority on South Africa’s economy and its implications for the business community, especially through his long-established high-level involvement in organised business and policy-making,” he said in a statement.

Parsons is a past-president of Essa and has authored or edited five books on various aspects of South Africa's political economy.
