Dual-listed Orion Minerals on Monday announced that a major SkyTEM airborne electromagnetic survey has started over its flagship Prieska zinc/copper project, in South Africa, as it continues to accelerate its near-mine exploration programme.

The intensification of near-mine exploration activities follows the successful completion of the mineral resource drill-out of the Prieska deep sulphide target, as well as the announcement of an early breakthrough with the recent discovery of a new satellite volcanogenic massive sulphide discovery at the Ayoba prospect.

Denmark-headquartered SkyTEM was contracted to fly the 822 km line TEM survey covering all of the company’s prospecting permits in the immediate Prieska project area.

The survey will be flown at between 30 m and 50 m flight height, 200 m line and 2 000 m tie line spacing.

The helicopter TEM survey will be flown with the highly innovative SkyTEM 312 high power technology for deep target imaging. This high-power system is optimised to provide an exceptional depth of investigation as a result of the high moment mode with high current and low base frequency of 12.5 Hz.

The survey began on December 1.
