Project Description
The project involves the development of Ethiopia’s megawater, sanitation and hygiene programme, one of the biggest of such projects in the world.
The programme will be implemented in all the nine regions and the two city administrations of Ethiopia.
The OWNP is expected to deliver improved and sustainable water-supply facilities at institutions and in rural and urban areas; improved sanitation facilities; improved water, sanitation and hygiene-sector capacity for planning, budgeting, monitoring, reporting and sustaining services at decentralised and federal levels.

The cost of the OWNP is estimated at $2.4-billion.
Duration
The programme will be implemented over five years, starting in July and ending in May 2019.
Latest Developments
The African Development Bank has approved a loan of $91.1-million and a technical support grant of $10.06-million from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative Trust Fund to finance the OWNP.
Other institutions funding the project include the UK Department for International Development, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the World Bank and the government of Ethiopia.
