OMH lifts production at Bootu Creek
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Manganese miner OM Holdings (OMH) has increased production from its Bootu Creek operation, as the benefits of an owner-operator mining fleet became noticeable.
The miner said on Tuesday that production for the three months to March had reached 195 607 t, which was above the 177 616 t of manganese produced in the previous three months.
During the quarter under review, OMH focused on the development and pre-stripping campaign at the new Zulu pit, which is adjacent to the processing plant run-of-mine pad, and which was expected to result in significant savings in intermediate haulage.
The Zulu pit was expected to provide the bulk of the high-grade ore supply for 2013.
Looking ahead, OMH’s production target for 2013 was set at around 800 000 t, with the miner saying production would be centered around a normalised and fully optimsied life-of-mine strip ratio mining operation.
The company added that its mining and production strategy would ensure a solid operating platform during the current price environment, while allowing maximum production flexibility to respond to changing circumstances.
Meanwhile, at its Qinzhou smelter plant, in China, OMH produced some 22 269 t of high carbon ferromanganese alloy, which was a 25% year-on-year increase. The company said that manganese sinter ore production reached 59 716 t, which was a 31% increase year-on-year.
The processing opeations sold some 16 694 t of high carbon ferromanganese, and a further 3 077 t of manganese sinter during the three months under review.
With the fully optimised production schedule for both products well under way, OMH expected to produce some 80 000 t of high carbon ferromanganese, and some 250 000 t of manganese sinter during the 2013 calendar year.
