PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Operations at the Olympic Dam copper/gold/uranium mine, in South Australia, remained suspended on Tuesday, following last week’s storm, which hit the state’s power supply.

BHP reported that the mine had started receiving some power from the grid, after electricity was restored to the Roxby Downs township on Friday evening.

“With the additional generation capacity sourced and connected, this will ensure asset stability and integrity of the operations, until full power is restored and the operations can resume as normal,” the company said in a statement.

BHP suspended operations and demobilised the site following the storm. At the time, the miner reported that back-up generators were providing power to critical infrastructure, which would allow a restart of operations when power was restored.

BHP is expected to release the production impacts of the power outage during its September quarterly report, due for release later this month.
