Project Description
The 140 MW Nxuba Wind Farm project forms part of the 700 MW of wind capacity awarded to Enel following the South African government’s Round 4 Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) tender, which was awarded in April 2015.
Nxuba is expected to generate more than 460 GWh/y, avoiding the emission of about 500 000 t/y of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The wind farm will be supported by a 20-year power supply agreement with State-owned power utility Eskom as part of the REIPPPP.

Latest Developments
EGP has started with the generation and delivery of energy from the Nxuba Wind Farm with the commissioning of the final wind turbine.
The company says this is despite challenges attributed to Covid-19 containment measures and the national lockdown.
The completion of the project amounted to two-million man-hours,with zero incidents, and involved a significant skills transfer element.
EGP enlisted the services of individuals and small to medium-sized enterprises from the Blue Crane Route and Raymond Mhlaba local municipalities, which comprise Adelaide, Cookhouse, Somerset East and Bedford, to help build the plant.
