Nestlé invites applications for its Creating Shared Value Prize
Nutrition, health and wellness company Nestlé is looking for applicants that qualify for its Nestlé Creating Shared Value (CSV) Prize, which is awarded in alternate years to an innovative, commercially viable and high-impact initiative.
“The Nestlé CSV Prize supports outstanding projects or innovations that aim to improve access to water or the management of water, improve the lives of farmers and rural commu- nities or bring improved nutrition to populations suffering from nutritional problems. The first Nestlé CSV Prize was awarded in 2010,” explains Nestlé South Africa spokesperson Ravi Pillay.
“The Nestlé CSV Prize seeks to encourage the private and nonprofit sectors to realise the potential of creating shared value. There are many examples of creating shared value and we aim to incentivise the development of the best of these examples worldwide.”
Since the launch of the initiative, Nestlé has had great success. In 2010, the Nestlé prize was awarded to iDE Cambodia.
“iDE Cambodia recruits and trains rural businesspeople to become business advisers to farmers who can work closely with small-scale farmers in an area and, through that direct access, spread a better understanding of good farming practices. Currently, more than 100 advisers are working with
15 000 farmers,” says Pillay.
The entrants are asked to look at specific fields of achievement, which include, but are not limited to, agriculture, including extension services and the use of new technologies; food science and technology; nutrition education programmes; water management; and the protection of water resources.
