Cold rolled steel product manufacturer Inprofile2000 has been notified that the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) will be striking at its manufacturing facility, in Alberton, from July 1.

The company said Numsa had indicated that it expected the strike to last for four to six weeks; however, Inprofile was of the opinion that it would be resolved within two weeks.

“We are putting in every measure possible not to be affected by this strike, but, as we have learnt from past experience, they make it very hard to operate at a normal level. We will, however, try and roll only at night to keep up and we are trying to bring in trained workers who will not be forced to strike with the union, but this is not guaranteed,” Inprofile MD Wolfgang Neumann said in a letter to customers on Tuesday.

The company requested that all June/July orders be placed by the end of May to enable Inprofile to manufacture the items before the onset of the strike, recommending that its customers stock up on items needed to prevent them from being negatively affected should Inprofile not be able to produce.
