PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed project house NRW Holdings has been awarded a A$67-million contract at the Roy Hill iron-ore mine, in Western Australia.

The contract included various earthworks, piping and associated works, as well as drill and blast operations. NRW said that the works would last some seven months and would peak at a workforce of 160.

The Roy Hill operation was expected to produce some 55-million tons a year, and would include a 344 km heavy-haul railway and new berths at Port Hedland. The project was expected to start production in 2015.

A contract worth A$71-million was recently awarded to the Decmil Group for the design and construction of rail and port facilities for the Roy Hill project, along with associated infrastructure to service the port.
