Project Description
The Notsi solar PV project currently ranks as the largest solar PV project in South Africa and will power the commercial and industrial sectors through offtake agreements with licensed energy trader Discovery Green and renewable-energy IPP, aggregator and trader NOA.

The 475 MW ac solar PV development will span more than 1 000 ha and comprise more than 860 000 solar panels. 

Its yearly energy output of about 1 500 000 MWh of clean electrons will be enough to power about 140 000 homes a year.

Latest Developments
Construction has started following financial close, which has been underpinned by 20-year-plus offtake agreements with electricity traders Discovery Green and NOA. 

Anthem has said there is a high probability that a battery energy storage system will be added to the 475 MW ac project, with the site already permitted for such integration, although the plant will initially be built as a standalone solar PV facility.

The company expects to assess the timing and optimal battery sizing with Eskom, Discovery Green and NOA after the project enters commercial operation. 

An engineering, procurement and construction joint venture between China Energy Engineering Corporation and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute has been appointed, while construction crews are being mobilised and detailed designs are being finalised.
