Project Description
An in-house scoping study on the restart of the Norton gold mine, in Western Australia, has delivered positive outcomes.
The scoping study is based on shallow 25 m to 30 m pits similar to those previously mined at the operation, with processing rates targeted at 61 500 t over a two-and-a-half-year period at a head grade of 6.5 g/t of gold.
Processing is expected to comprise 76% indicated mineral resources and 24% inferred mineral resources.
Metallurgical testwork has indicated favourable gold recoveries using a simple gravity circuit, recovering 90% of the as-mined gold in concentrate on site, followed by trucking low tonnages of high-grade concentrate to a toll treatment plant for a subsequent 90% recovery into gold doré bars from carbon-in-leach and carbon-in-pulp processing.
Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The project has a net present value, at an 8% discount rate, of more than $4.7-million using an estimated gold price of $1 500/oz, with a payback of six months.
