NEXUS gas transmission and Texas Eastern Appalachian lease projects.

Location
The projects will transport 1.5-million dekatherms of natural gas a day from the Appalachian basin to consuming markets in Northern Ohio and south-eastern Michigan, in the US, as well as the Dawn Hub, in Ontario, Canada.

Project Description
The projects propose the construction and operation of:
• a 418 km, 91-cm-diameter, greenfield natural gas pipeline in Ohio and Michigan;
• an interconnecting pipeline 1.93 km long, and 76 cm to 91 cm in diameter, in Ohio;
• a 7.4 km, 91-cm-diameter pipeline looping in Ohio; and
• associated equipment and facilities.

The projects’ proposed above-ground facilities include:
• NEXUS’ four new compressor stations, six new metering and regulating stations, and 17 new mainline valves in Ohio and Michigan;
• Texas Eastern’s new compressor station, modifications of an existing compressor station, two new pig launchers/receivers (a pig is a tool used to clean and dry a pipeline and/or inspect it for damage or corrosion) and a temporary pig launcher/receiver; and
• additional new facilities and modifications, such as pig launchers/receivers, communication towers and regulators, installed at other facility sites.

The project will create 6 800 jobs in the construction phase.

The project is expected to start construc-tion in the fourth quarter of 2017, subject to final market demand and receipt of necessary regulatory approvals.

Latest Developments
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has determined that construction and operation of the projects will result in some adverse environmental impacts, but impacts will be reduced to less-than-significant levels with the implementation of NEXUS’ and Texas Eastern’s proposed mitigation measures and the FERC staff’s recommendations.
