PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Newcrest on Thursday reaffirmed its decision to delist from the TSX, with last trade in Canada expected on September 4.

The miner told shareholders that following the delisting, Newcrest’s ordinary shares would continue to be traded on the ASX and the Port Moresby Stock Exchange, in Papua New Guinea.

Newcrest said that its decision to delist had been made on the basis that the anticipated benefits of the TSX had not been realised to date, and the company’s expectation that maintaining the listing would not deliver significant future value to the company.

Newcrest stock closed at C$13.17 on Wednesday.

The gold miner recently reported a loss of A$5.7-billion for the year ended June, on the back of asset impairment and write-downs of A$6.2-billion. This was compared with a profit of some A$1.1-billion in the previous financial year.

The company reported asset impairments of A$5.56-billion, asset write-downs of A$349-million and a write-down of its investment in fellow gold miner Evolution Mining of A$273-million, as well as a A$51-million restructuring cost.
