The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) will construct a R14-million pedestrian bridge in Gauteng’s Slovo Park informal settlement.

The bridge was aimed at creating a safe link between Coronationville and Industria West by eradicating the current dangerous practice of pedestrians crossing directly over the railway line and placing their lives at risk.

The new Slovo pedestrian bridge was part of a comprehensive JRA programme to revitalise road and stormwater infrastructure across the city.

It would be located at the end of Kelvin street, intersecting Newclare road across the railway line and joining into Harmony road.

JRA would provide detailed information at a public briefing session with the community on July 12.

It was expected that construction work on the project would commence on August 1 and that the envisaged completion date would be August 2017.
