New industry awards launched for organisers of conferences and exhibitions.

A new awards programme for Africa’s conference and exhibition industry has been launched and it will take place in Johannesburg on 26-27 February 2017. The Confex Africa Awards, an independent industry initiative, will put event organisers in the limelight to celebrate achieving their targets in the most challenging period ever experienced by this sector at large.
According to Gerrit Davids, organiser and MD of Gerom Media, “the Awards was conceptualised to create an outlet for event organisers to bask in the glory of achieving year on year growth in their endeavour to grow events in this highly competitive arena”.
Entry to the Awards will be subjected to a questionnaire, which will survey year on year growth in areas like delegate attendance, total number of exhibitors, hosted buyers, social media interaction, sponsorship, match-making meetings, media coverage, speaker numbers, event partners, the number of jobs created and social responsibility; etc. Winners in the respective categories will be based on their actual year on year growth and not as with others awards, chosen by a panel of judges.
Awards will be handed out in 60 different categories inclusive of the Hall of Fame Awards, Grand Prix’s for Conference of the Year, Trade Exhibition of the Year, Consumer Event of the Year, Business Event of the Year and Africa’s Leading Event respectively. The industry will also vote for the events they admired most.
A Master class will be held on Monday 27 February 2017, which will feature some of Africa’s leading professional speakers as well as presentations on Effective Strategies for Engaging the Digitally Connected Event Attendee; Building Next Legacy Events through Creative, Innovative & Sustainable Big Data Strategies and Advanced Event Sponsorship Negotiation Strategies.
