An express air solution for shipments up to 1 000 kg a piece and 3 000 kg a shipment, was recently announced by global logistics integrator DHL Express. The Heavy Weight Express (HWX) service marks an expansion of the company’s Time Definite International portfolio.

The company stated that its new service is designed to meet the needs of industries where shipment reliability and timing are critical. It features the integration of fast, time‑definite delivery with end‑to‑end control, proactive monitoring, and transparent all‑in pricing designed to eliminate rate volatility and cost uncertainties. Customers are offered guaranteed express transit times, comprehensive shipment visibility, and stringent handling procedures for shock‑sensitive, high‑value, or regulated goods.

“Across sub‑Saharan Africa (SSA), we are seeing customers move larger, more critical shipments at faster speeds as industries scale, modernise and integrate into global value chains. This service gives businesses certainty, visibility and control at a time when supply‑chain performance is a key competitive advantage,” said DHL Express SSA CEO Hennie Heymans.

The service is supported by the introduction of specialised teams at so-called Heavy Weight Priority Desks, responsible for proactive tracking, early exception detection, real‑time intervention, and direct communication with customers to ensure uninterrupted shipment flow. Each heavyweight shipment receives dedicated case ownership, aimed at giving customers predictability and personal attention backed by the company’s global integrator infrastructure, standardised processes, and 24/7 operational control.

The solution is designed to avoid production downtime, manage programme and product launches with immovable timelines, optimise working capital by reducing inventory buffers, support procurement‑driven large‑scale shipping environments, comply with stringent special handling requirements, and stabilise complex multi‑site supply chains. These goals are seen as especially important in the technology sector, automotive manufacturing, engineering and machinery, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and oil, gas and energy sectors—industries where even small delays can result in severe financial impacts.

HWX is said to offer customers the stability of a single carrier from pickup to delivery. DHL Express notes that it manages its own aircraft fleet, hubs, gateways, customs operations, and last‑mile delivery—ensuring predictability even during periods of global disruption or limited air capacity.
