Following its outright acquisition of Powertech subsidiary Powertech Africa for an undisclosed amount, newly established Poweroad Africa will make its official debut into the electric power market in mid-May.

Absorbing the full staff complement, as well as the assets and contracts of Powertech Africa, the single-source solutions provider of a variety of electric products and services started trading on April 1 and is now gearing up to target the sub-Saharan Africa region with a range of existing and new products and services.

Led by MD Darin Mac Allister and sales and marketing director Neil Borthwick, the company is currently based on the Powertech premises, in Bryanston.

“To bring the product to the customers’ doorstep and meet local market requirements, we are establishing a steadily growing network of approved distributors and agents in each country. Through this network, we can ensure that each market is treated with equal priority and given the full support of the company,” says Mac Allister.

The new company will help to facilitate the flow, distribution and storage of energy, from generation through to the plug point, as well as assist with entire power projects, in particular in the renewable-energy market, and engineering, procurement and construction support from greenfield to commissioning through select partners.

“The expanding list of products and international partners currently includes transformers (Beta Transformers), solar panels (Amerisolar), energy storage systems (Alpha ESS), uninterruptible power supply and inverters (Makelsan), low-voltage electrical and lighting solutions (Elmark) and cable accessories (TTAF),” he said.

Further, Poweroad will unlock funding options to mitigate any financing barriers for projects.

Poweroad will officially be launched at African Utility Week, in Cape Town, which runs from May 17 to 19.
