International logistics company Necotrans Group has, along with a consortium of nine Cameroonian port sector operators, the Kribi Port Multi Operators (KPMO), secured a partnership contract for the operation and maintenance of a multipurpose terminal at the deep-water port at Kribi, in Cameroon.

The port has a draught of 17 m. The multipurpose terminal, approved by the Cameroon government, would initially have a quay measuring 265 m, with two berths, equipped with two cranes on rails and six truck-mounted cranes.

Although the terms of the contract were yet to be finalised, Necotrans and KPMO expected to be granted a 20-year concession, with about €26.2-million to be invested in the project.

"We are particularly proud to have joined our colleagues from Cameroon in a win-win partnership and to have gained the trust of the authorities in the country.

“Kribi is the only deep-water port in Central Africa and, as such, is destined to become the economic driving force of Cameroon and the subregion,” Necotrans chairperson Grégory Quérel said.

A second phase of the project would see the development of an adjacent quay measuring 350 m, along with complementary facilities and equipment.

The multipurpose terminal at Kribi would provide work for over 250 people. The main goods handled would be vehicles, wood, cotton, mineral ore and oil and gas equipment, together with the materials used for the construction of an industrial zone and a proposed future power plant that would be built next to the port.
