Namakwa Diamonds’ subsidiary Storm Mountain Diamonds (SMD), which it co-owns with the Lesotho government, has recovered a 108.39 ct fancy pink diamond from the Kao mine, in Lesotho.

SMD says this exceptionally rare Type IIa diamond is one of the largest pink diamonds ever recovered.

The Kao mine has produced some of the rarest vivid polished diamonds in the world, including the 47 ct Pink Eternity diamond in 2022, the 25 ct Pink Dawn and the 21 ct Pink Palesa diamonds in 2021, as well as the 29 ct Rose of Kao in 2018.

This latest find re-emphasises the mine’s position as one of the world’s most important producers of exceptional pink diamonds, states SMD.

Notably, SMD says the Lesotho Minister of Natural Resources has noted that the diamond marks one of the most significant ones to have been found in Lesotho to date.

Namakwa marketing manager Debbie Bowen says the diamond has not been named yet, nor has it been decided how it will be sold.
