The project is located on the Great Dyke, in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Platinum Mines, Zimplats’ main operating subsidiary.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of a new 2.2-million-tonne-a-year underground platinum mining complex.

The new complex will replace production from the Rukodzi and Ngwarati mines once they have been mined out and closed, which is expected in 2022 and 2025 respectively.

The life-of-mine is estimated at 34 years.

Jobs to be Created
The mine will employ an estimated 1 000 people at full production. A substantial number of contractors will be employed during the development, construction and commissioning of the project. A significant number of employees at the mining operations will be from the local community.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
Not stated.

Value
$264-million.

Duration
Access decline development to intersect ore will take 37 months to complete. The first production fleet will be deployed in early 2021.

Full production capacity of 2.2-million tonnes will be reached in 2025.

Latest Developments
The development of Mupani mine is on schedule to reach the ore contact by May 2020 and full production in August 2025.

A total of $8-million had been spent on the project as at March 31, 2017, against an approved total project budget of $264-million.
