Uganda was set to receive high-speed Internet access after telecommunications group MTN this week launched a long-term evolution (LTE) network in the East African country.

MTN would initially offer the LTE service, which was three times faster than the region’s current connections, in greater Kampala.

Other towns in Uganda could expect to receive access to the network in “the near future”, with 20 locations having already been fully integrated onto the LTE network, MTN Uganda chief marketing officer Ernst Fonternel said on Friday.

LTE-capable dongles would be on sale at selected MTN outlets.
