Telecommunications group MTN South Africa is preparing to roll out its fifth-generation (5G) private network communications solution to a larger variety of industries after its success in the mining sector.

The company’s private network deployment, incorporating high-performance 5G wireless communication, is expected to redefine industries, empowering even remote areas to thrive.

“Our 5G private network gives you control of your connectivity, by providing predictable latencies, high device density support and scalability, all delivered securely,” says MTN South Africa information and communications technology Centre of Excellence acting executive Vaughn Naidoo.

The expansion into new industries is expected to “usher in a new era of growth” for the company, delivering the innovation and operational efficiency needed to drive further industrialisation, which will be beneficial for South Africa’s much-needed economic growth.

“Through liberating industries by enabling them to deploy industry-specific use cases not previously possible, our solution will unleash the full potential of industry, fostering innovation and driving profitability.”

The dedicated equipment and configurations for the networks ensure predictable and secure network services, while the flexible network installations can be set up on site within an enterprise’s premises or in specified geographical areas, providing a dedicated and isolated network environment.

According to Naidoo, MTN’s 5G private networks’ benefits are diverse and far-reaching, offering predictable service; control of connectivity; enhanced data speeds and ultralow latency; customised services; and enhanced security.

“The result is a dependable private network with ultra-reliable low latency communication and high-speed capabilities. The major benefits of low latency include real-time responsiveness, enhancing . . . the Internet of Things (IoT) industrial automation, virtual reality and augmented reality,” he adds.

MTN’s commitment to empowering industries with cutting-edge solutions and the further deployment of 5G private networks across more industries is another significant step towards a digitally connected future.
