Southern African paper and plastics packaging manufacturer Mpact said on Thursday it expected basic and headline earnings a share for the year ended December 31, 2012 to rise 20% on those earned in the 2011 financial year.

The JSE-listed group attributed the increase to lower finance costs, owing to significantly reduced net debt, and an improved trading performance.

Mpact planned to release another trading statement at a later date providing a more accurate earnings forecast.
