Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi has joined the Gibela board as nonexecutive chairperson from May 1.

He currently serves on a number of boards, including as chairperson of the Central Energy Fund and nonexecutive director of South32.

He has extensive executive leadership, business and technical experience in the energy, mining and the public sectors and was previously CEO of Bateman Africa and of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.

“Dr Mkhwanazi’s knowledge and understanding of public policy and current government priorities, coupled with his sound networks in both the public and private sectors, sets him apart. We are pleased that he has come on board and look forward to his innovative contribution to the development and success of Gibela,” CEO Marc Granger said in a statement on Wednesday.

The other members of the Gibela board are Gian-Luca Erbacci, Yvan Eriau, Duke Mgaga, Sonja de Bruyn Sebotsa, Mziwabantu Dayimani and Zunaid Mayet.
