PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining has started at the Warrawoona gold project, in the Pilbara, ASX-listed Calidus Resources reported on Monday.

The company said that ore was being delivered to the run-of-mine pad, ensuring the project remained on schedule for first gold production in the June quarter of next year.

Meanwhile, construction at the processing plant was progressing, and was now some 53% complete, with preliminary works for the semi-autogenous grinding mill installation well under way.

“We are now more than 50% built and we are well on track for first gold in the June quarter of 2022. Delivery of first ore to the run-of-mine pad is always an important marker in a project’s development and confirms we are on track to be Australia’s next gold producer,” said Calidus MD Dave Reeves.

“As we complete the tailings dam, we will open up the mining area in preparation for the main mining equipment, which is due to arrive in the first quarter of 2022.”

An updated prefeasibility study into the Warrawoona project found that some 623 086 oz of gold could be recovered over an initial mine life of eight years, with pre-production capital estimated at A$116-million.

The mine is expected to produce 105 000 oz/y, but has the potential to increase to 139 000 oz/y when the nearby Blue Spec deposit is developed. A definitive feasibility study on Blue Spec is due in the June quarter of next year
