Mineral Hill mine, Australia
Name
Mineral Hill mine.
Location
Near Condobolin, in New South Wales, Australia.
Mine Owner/s
Kingston Resources.
Brief Description
Mineral Hill is currently approved to operate to extract and process gold.
The mine comprises tailings storage facilities, the Pearse North and Pearse South ore deposits, the Southern ore zone and Parkers Hill.
Brief History
The Mineral Hill mine is an historic operating mine site that was placed on care and maintenance in 2016. In 2020, a decision was made to advance the tailings reprocessing operation.
Primary Metals/Minerals
Gold and copper.
Secondary Metals/Minerals
Not stated.
Geology/Mineralisation
Mineralisation at Mineral Hill is hosted within the Silurian Mineral Hill volcanics near its contact with the overlying Talingaboolba formation. The sequence was folded resulting in a south-east-plunging anticline, with the north-eastern limb having been displaced at about 100 m vertically by the Parkers Hill fault.
Multiple phases of mineralisation are present and it is suggested that the gold-dominant mineralisation came before the base metal-dominant mineralisation. The gold-dominant mineralisation comprises pyrite-gold-native bismuth ± arsenopyrite within quartz veins or breccia. The base metals-dominant mineralisation comprises sulphides.
Secondary copper oxides and carbonates, lead carbonates and sulphates and a variety of silver halides occur in the oxidised zones of the mineralised system.
Mineralised material in the tailings storage facilities comprises clay to fine sand-sized particles deposited in subhorizontal layers from numerous outflow sites located around the perimeter of the facilities. The particles contain remnant gold and copper that was not separated from the gangue during the beneficiation process.
Reserves
Total proven and probable reserves as at November 18, 2021, were estimated at 2.07-million tonnes at 1.40 g/t gold and 5 g/t silver.
Resources
Total mineral resources as at November 18, 2021, were estimated at 5.91-million tonnes grading 1.20 g/t gold, 23.5 g/t silver, 0.7% copper, 1% lead and 0.6% zinc.
Mining Method
Openpit and underground longhole stoping.
Major Infrastructure and Equipment
The site comprises processing facilities including a 700 000 t/y carbon-in-leach circuit, with the capacity to treat oxide and sulphide ores, a 350 000 t/y float plant that is on care and maintenance, a run-of-mine pad, tailings storage facilities 1 and 2, waste rock emplacement, and two opencut pits, the Pearse opencut and Eastern pit.
Prospects
A development plan is under way targeting an initial five-year mine life concentrating on gold and copper production beyond 2029 from within approved mining leases.
